Attending the AWS Summit in Amsterdam was a great opportunity for our team to reconnect with the cloud community, exchange knowledge, and showcase our joint achievements with clients. One of the highlights of the event was the NS Serverless Express activation – an interactive and AI-powered LEGO train experience, developed by Levi9 in collaboration with NS (Dutch Railways), which drew constant attention throughout the day.
AWS Summit from levi niners perspective
Reflecting on the experience, our colleague Jelena Ilić, who represented Levi9 at the summit with Jovana Ivković and Filip Stanišić, shared:
“It was a great experience and a good opportunity to talk about our collaboration with the client. The NS booth was busy most of the time, which showed the train was an interesting attraction at the AWS Summit. Good to mention is that we had around 150 rides that day.”
Beyond the playful exterior of the LEGO train, what truly captured the audience’s interest was the technology behind it.
“What I found most inspiring was seeing how much interest there was in our solution. Talking to so many different people and interesting questions that they had.”
Several of our customers presented their success stories on stage, including NS. Seeing their journey from a different perspective was both inspiring and rewarding:
“NS had a talk and it was great to hear our clients share their success stories about their AWS migration, where the Levi9 team contributed a lot. Listening to their goals and achievements was inspiring, and it felt great knowing that our impact was part of their success. It was a pleasure hearing how valuable teamwork is and the positive impact we can have.”

Technology behind the NS Serverless Express
The NS Serverless Express stood out due to its innovative architecture and seamless integration:
“I think the most attractive part for visitors was definitely the ability to actually experience the train ride. But beyond that, a lot of people were really interested in the architecture, especially how we connected all the components to make everything work seamlessly.”
From a technical standpoint, the project brought together various AWS services and physical components into a fully functioning demo:
“The entire NS Serverless Express solution is deployed on AWS. It uses several services including IoT Core, Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, DynamoDB, and S3. We also integrated AWS AI services like Bedrock for image generation and Polly for voices to tell the user where the train is. Behind that, the key physical components were a LEGO train, a Raspberry Pi, and a servo motor, which we used to control the train in an interactive way. The AWS Summit tunnel was 3D printed by the Levi9 team as well.”
Asked whether it was difficult to explain the architecture to the visitors, she added with a smile:
“The most challenging was to talk with a lot of people at the same time.”
From real-time demos and customers success stories to meaningful conversations about cloud solutions, our experience at AWS Summit Amsterdam once again highlighted the power of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. We’re proud of the Levi9 teams that bring ideas to life—and even prouder when those ideas make an impact.
