This spring, Levi9 ran student internships at two of its delivery centers – in Belgrade and Novi Sad – giving 10 students a chance to work on real projects, with real tools, and real expectations.
Belgrade: Applied AI & Cloud Engineering
The Belgrade internship brought together four students from the University of Belgrade – the Faculty of Organizational Sciences and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering – for 3 weeks of hands-on work guided by mentors Nikola Ilic, Aleksandar Ivanovic, and Kosta Acimovic.
The program moved through key concepts in security, Scrum, and artificial intelligence before shifting its focus to the AWS environment. Interns worked with services including S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudFront, CloudWatch, Bedrock, and API Gateway – getting a close-up view of how modern cloud applications are built and deployed. Using Cursor as a development tool, they built applications aimed at automating processes within student services. By the final week, they were deploying a fully rebuilt version of the application to AWS independently. The program also introduced them to the MCP concept along the way.
Novi Sad: Data & AI
The Novi Sad group consisted of six students – four from the Faculty of Technical Sciences and two from the Faculty of Science, including two Levi9 scholarship holders – working under mentors Milos Kuljic, Dalibor Makan, Aleksandar Joksimovic, and Stefan Halapa.
The interns worked in two parallel groups on complementary challenges. One group built an analytics system for processing wind sensor data from multiple geographic locations, combining it with public API sources to identify suitable sites for wind turbine placement in Serbia. The other tackled air quality, developing a pipeline for collecting and analyzing pollution data from both sensor networks and public meteorological APIs.
Both groups worked on the AWS cloud platform throughout – using S3 for storage, AWS Glue for ETL processing orchestrated by Step Functions, Amazon Athena for querying, and Grafana for visualization. Each team also got to build an intelligent agent using AWS Bedrock, and managed the entire infrastructure as code through AWS CDK with a fully automated deployment pipeline.
The student evaluations coming out of Novi Sad reflected strong satisfaction across the board, with mentorship scoring at the top.
Why it matters
Student internships are one of the most tangible ways Levi9 invests in the local tech community. Whether it’s wind data or cloud deployments, what stays with interns long after the three weeks are up isn’t just the tech stack. It’s the experience of doing real work in a professional environment, with people who take the time to teach.
